{"id":2229,"date":"2020-03-28T21:22:25","date_gmt":"2020-03-28T20:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jp2doc.pl\/en\/?p=2229"},"modified":"2020-03-28T21:22:25","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T20:22:25","slug":"i-am-the-resurrection-and-the-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jp2doc.pl\/en\/2020\/03\/28\/i-am-the-resurrection-and-the-life\/","title":{"rendered":"I am the Resurrection and the Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My dear sisters and brothers, I consider it a great privilege to\nwrite to you on this 5<sup>th<\/sup> Sunday in Lent.&nbsp; As the world continues to suffer from the\naffliction of the Coronavirus, as churches around the world are closed, and as\ncountless numbers of people are unable to receive the sacraments, our readings\nthis week call us to remember the Lord\u2019s plan for each of us.&nbsp; Though we suffer affliction, this is not the\nend.&nbsp; Though many are dying around the\nworld, God will have the final say; his victory is already won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this sorrowful time in our history, when we are burying tens of\nthousands of people, the first reading from <em>Ezekiel<\/em>\nhas particular weight.&nbsp; \u201cThus says the\nLord God: I am going to open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, o\nmy people\u201d (Ez 37:12).&nbsp; This foretelling\nof the future resurrection is a source of hope for all people.&nbsp; God did not create us for death and\ndestruction; he created us to share in his divine life \u2013 to have life, in the\nfullest sense.&nbsp; He created us to be in\ncommunion with him and live with him forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin is the source of death, for it cuts us off from God, who is the\nvery source of life itself.&nbsp; Moreover,\nour sins thwart God\u2019s plan for our lives.&nbsp;\nAll of creation is bound up in God\u2019s will and plan.&nbsp; Thus, when we sin we frustrate God\u2019s will,\nwhich is manifest in and through his ordering of creation.&nbsp; In a very real way, our sins are the cause of\ndisorder and chaos.&nbsp; Sin is far more\ndeadly and destructive than any virus, disease, or plague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there is a cure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Jesus, who is the \u201cResurrection and the Life\u201d (Jn 11:25),\ncame to save us from our sins, restore the right ordering of creation, and\nreestablish our relationship with God.&nbsp; Though\nour wills are still free to turn against him and perpetuate more sin, by his\nfree offer of salvation, won for us on the Cross, the Lord Jesus has healed us\nof our wounds and made it possible to live a life of love and holiness.&nbsp; \u201cThose who believe in me, even though they\ndie, will live\u201d, says the Lord (Jn 11:25).&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The holy season of Lent calls us to repentance and conversion.&nbsp; As we prepare for the solemnity of Easter\nwhen we will celebrate the Lord\u2019s resurrection from the dead, let us return to\nthe Lord with sorrow for our sins, and pray for his love and mercy.&nbsp; The Lord is waiting to accept us back into\nhis family, and to give us the gift of resurrection and life.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kevin Ponte<\/strong> \u2013 St. Joseph Seminary, Edmonton, Alberta<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fot.
