The book Giovanni Paolo II: legislatore della Chiesa is available for purchase at the Vatican City library. It was published by Libreria Editrice Vaticana at the beginning of 2013. The book contains the acts of the symposium which took place in Lugano, March 22-23, 2012. The symposium was organized by the Institute of Cannon Law (DiReCom) in Lugano and the John Paul II Foundation – the Pontificate Center for Documentation and Research.
The book was presented during the session organized to commemorate the promulgation of the 30th Anniversary of the Code of Canon Law. The session took place January 30th, 2013. They were prepared by the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and the DiReCom Institute in collaboration with the John Paul II Foundation and the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Foundation. The session was a good opportunity to emphasize that the Code of Canon Law was fruit of Vatican Council II. At the conclusion of the event prof. Brian Ferme presented the acts of the Lugano symposium. The speaker stressed the actuality of this publication gives better appreciation of Pope Wojtyla’s pontificate. Professor Ferme’s opinion emphasized that research on this subject matter should be continued because the subject matter is so rich and there is still many topics to discover.
The book Giovanni Paolo II: legislatore della Chiesa, consists of three chapters, edited by prof. Libero Gerosa from Lugano. Chapter One contains addresses delivered by various academics and government authorities during the conference. Chapter Two includes nine discourses delivered by the lecturers. Chapter Three includes eight articles sent by the scholars for the symposium. The index presents the list of all the norms from the Church disseminated during John Paul II’s pontificate.
A book of this type is especially interesting for those who are experts in Canon Law. The publication however shows a less known area of John Paul II’s activity as a pope. He was a lawyer, a poet and as a good Pastor he was well versed in the important role of Canon Law in Church life.
