Lk 19,29-44. 13,34-35
Today we can not begin this meeting without directly addressing Jesus, and we are going to do it now: “Jesus, I want to ask you for light, feelings, sensitivity to understand what happened when you triumphantly entered Jerusalem. Today I want to understand the reason for what you did and why you cried. That’s why I ask you to know how to be attentive and not to miss any moment of this scene. ” I invite you to listen to it paying a lot of attention, as the Gospel of Luke tells us, in chapter 19, verse 29-44, and in chapter 13,34-35:
Having said this, He walked before them going up to Jerusalem. When he was already near Bethphage and Bethany, next to the Mount called of the Olives, he sent two disciples while saying: “Go to the neighboring village across. Upon entering, you will find a little tied donkey which no one has yet ridden. Unleash it and bring it. If anyone asks you why you are untying it, you will say: “The Lord needs it.” The envoys went and found it as he had told them. While untying the donkey, their owners told them: “Why are you untying the donkey?” They replied: “The Lord needs it.” And they took him to Jesus. And throwing their cloaks over the donkey, they helped Jesus to ride on. While He was advancing, they spread their cloaks on the road. Near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples, full of joy, began to praise God with great voices for all the wonders they had seen, exclaiming: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of THE LORD! Peace in heaven and glory high above!”. Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him: “Master, rebuke your disciples!” He replied: “I tell you that if these become silent, the stones will scream”. As he approached and saw the city, he wept over it saying: “If you also knew on this day what brings you to peace … But now it is hidden from your eyes, because days will come when your enemies will surround you with a a fence, they will encircle you and they will shake you on all sides, and they will crush you on the ground, with you and your children inside. And they will not leave in you stone upon stone, because you have not known the time of the visit that has been made to you. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and you stone those who are sent to you … How many times have I wanted to gather your children, like the bird gathers its chicks under its wings, and you did not want to! Well, know that your house will be deserted. But I tell you that you will not see me until the day comes when you say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
There are five days left to celebrate Easter and Jesus, who is in Bethany, decides to make his triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem. He prepares the whole procession and goes to this city. And when he has left Bethany and they are across from Betfage, then a historic and surprising moment occurs: Jesus tells his disciples to go to the opposite village, to take the donkey that is tied there, to bring it; and when they have already brought him, He rides on it and starts
